When is the christening ceremony?

Electric Boat (EB) will christen Virginia-class submarine PCU Utah on Saturday, October 25, 2025.

Who can attend the christening ceremony?

EB employees and guests who are U.S. citizens and have a physical ticket for the event may attend.

Where is the ceremony?

The christening ceremony will take place inside the assembly building (Building 260) at EB’s Groton, Connecticut, shipyard, located at 75 Eastern Point Rd., Groton, CT 06340.

What time is the ceremony?

The christening ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m.

How long will the ceremony be?

The ceremony will last approximately one hour, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and ending at about 11:00 a.m.

What time do gates open for guests?

The Main Gate will open for ticketed guests at 9:00 a.m.

What time do gates close for entry?

The Main Gate will close at 9:50 a.m. and entry will not be permitted past this time. Please give yourself plenty of time.

Is there a livestream or virtual option?

A livestream link will be available on the christening website at https://gdebchristenings.com.

What do I need to enter the ceremony?

All attendees must bring their ticket and have their ID readily available to enter. Ticketed employees who are attending must bring and wear their employee badge.

Do I need to stay with my guest(s)?

Every ticketed EB employee in attendance is required to wear their badge and accompany their guest(s) at all times.

Are other areas of the shipyard open for the christening?

No, all areas of the Groton shipyard other than the ceremony space inside Building 260 are strictly off limits.

What happens if there is inclement weather?

The ceremony will take place rain or shine. While the ceremony will be indoors, overflow standing room is located outside with a large jumbotron. Please come prepared with an umbrella or rain jacket should there be inclement weather.

How should I dress for the event?

The event will be in an industrial setting. Comfortable, flat shoes and casual or business casual dress is recommended.

Will food and refreshments be served?

Coffee, cider and water will be available for all guests at the ceremony. Food for EB employees and their guests will be available starting at 12:30 p.m. in the Visitor Lot in conjunction with EB Family Day. Food for non-employees and their guests will also start at 12:30 p.m. in the Visitor Lot by showing their blue christening tickets. Please refer to the Christening Parking Map for food location.

Are tickets required to attend the christening?

Yes, tickets are required to attend the christening ceremony. Every guest, including EB employees, must have their own ticket for admittance regardless of age.

Can I pick up my ticket(s) at the event?

Will Call, a table where you can pick up last-minute tickets, will be located across from the Main Gate entrance starting at 8:00 a.m. on the morning of the event. You may pick up your ticket at Will Call if you’ve pre-arranged to do so. Please refer to the Christening Parking Map for guidance.

What shipyard gate will guests use to enter the event?

Guests should enter the event through the Main Gate. Please refer to the Christening Parking Map for guidance.

Where should guests park?

All guests should park in Lot B. Please refer to the Christening Parking Map for guidance.

Is there handicap parking?

Yes, guests who require handicap assistance should park in Lot A. EB Transportation will run a continuous handicap van to and from Lot A and the ceremony location. Please refer to the Christening Parking Map for guidance.

Are wheelchairs permitted?

Yes, wheelchairs are permitted. Guests who need handicap transportation to and from the ceremony space should park in Lot A. EB Transportation will run a continuous handicap van to and from Lot A and the ceremony location for the duration of the event. Please refer to the Christening Parking Map for guidance.

Are strollers permitted?

The ceremony space will be crowded, and for safety reasons, strollers are not permitted. Babies and children, regardless of age, must be able to stand or be held by a guardian for the duration of the ceremony.

Are cameras and mobile devices permitted?

Use of cameras and mobile devices will be allowed at the ceremony site only. Photography while walking to and from the ceremony site is strictly prohibited.

Are there other items I cannot bring to the event?

No alcohol, drugs, tobacco or nicotine products, weapons, lawn chairs, blankets, backpacks, large bags (with the exception of diaper bags) or coolers will be allowed onto the property.

Will guests be able to purchase items from the Utah crew?

Yes, the crew will have a table set up with items for sale at the ceremony. Cash and card will be accepted forms of payment.

Will there be accommodations for nursing mothers, infants or baby changing stations?

A lactation room for nursing mothers will be available in the ceremony space and at the Yard Hospital (Bldg. 97).

Will restrooms be available?

Mobile restroom trailers will be stationed near the ceremony space for employees and guests
